The newest

A little bit of late night blogging never hurt anyone right?!

This has been the longest week ever and it's only Wednesday! But never fear, the coffee and the juice maker will keep me strong (especially when you get a little crazy with the juice recipes and the beetroot and the purple carrots come out to play and you're more interested in the pretty colours being spat out of the juicer than the juice itself...) and the art will be made/ uni assignments completed/ exams studied for...

How do you see me?
A series of necklaces crafted from upcycled and vintage materials.

These are a sneak peek preview of what I've been working hard away on and will be part of my addition to the group show that opens this Saturday at White Canvas Gallery, you should probably come and check us out.

Market time!

I'm well aware of my prolonged hiatus from creating pretty much anything but the truth is, no matter how much I thought I would be ok with uni starting again and work being fairly full on, it just hasn't happened.

Until now!

These last couple of days I have been putting together a suitcase to be part of a market day at my friend Imogens art space that is being held tomorrow. I made a few more pairs of leather cut out earrings and also some new necklaces to be on show. There are only three necklaces so far but they're just prototypes really, just to see what kind of feedback they receive.

Here are a few last minute photos I took on my phone before I packed them up to take out to the shop, please let me know what you think of my button clouds!

{they're all made from recycled leather and vintage buttons}

And if you're keen to stop by and check them out for real, here is the info for tomorrows festivities!

{yes the street is named after me..haha!}

Laundromat antics

So the other day I spent a good couple of hours chilling out in what I must say was one of the more interesting laundromats I've been in. and before you judge me and think, what a weirdo for just hanging out with other peoples laundry, I wasn't. I was actually partaking in the washing and drying of the clothes (camping and two days of rain isn't conducive to dry or nice smelling anything, particularly towels).
Anyway, as per usual I got a little snap happy, but this time I feel it was justified, it's one cool laundromat and one awesome vintage lino table that I would have stashed in the car had there been ample room..you be the judge.

Opshop gold!

Last week I took a trip down to the NSW north coast to visit family with my mum and along the way {both to and from} we stopped in at more opshops than I can count. We also took a trip into Bellingen {which is only about a half hour drive from Coffs} had some delicious organic somethings for lunch and hit all the wee boutique-ey shops and vintage stores they had to offer. The moral of this short and sweet post is I landed on some opshop vintage gold and can't wait to start new summer crafting projects!

My new, very plastic, very gold, very awesome clutch purse!

This ice-cream pillow case delight is double sided and I'll be making two sweet {pun intended!} cushions out of it, first come first served I'm afraid.

Who doesn't need more buttons?

or more zippers?

The golden find of the trip! Multi coloured zippers are so hard to find i'de say they're almost extinct, this is only the second one i've found in close to 3 years of zipper op-shopping and it's even more fabulous than the last one! Now my conundrum is what to make with it? Earrings? Brooch?

Materialistic at Reverse Garbage

What a delicious sunny afternoon!

Today has been full of surprises and treats so far, all of which I am going to share because I'm just that kind of person today.

First of all, my knee was free-ed from the prison of bandages and leg brace that it has been ensconsed in for the past two weeks post surgery. I tell you what, even though it's a bit of a weird feeling not having all that support around it anymore, it is SUPER nice to feel the sun again! {now to work on that summer tan...fake style of course!}

So in between that and then my physio appointment {not the most fun} Mum and I went down to the city to have a furkle around and landed ourselves in the L'Occitane shop. Let me just say if you havn't treated yourself it really is divine and smells SO good. They have two new moisturisers for spring, cherry blossom and orange blossom and a new peony fragrance - all amazing. I got myself a new lip gloss from the spring range and some awesome shea butter hand cream, love a good hand cream.

Then after physio {pain pain} mum and I quickly popped into Reverse Garbage where I found out that all the stock I took in a few weeks ago was being saved for the Materialistic exhibition that opens on Saturday night! Along with my old faithful zipper creations there are also newly created vintage button necklaces, leather earrings and vintage fabric gift cards. There is also a blog post about the show over on the BrisStyle blog where you can read more about it and see some of the other types of pieces that will be on display and for sale.

So if you're around on Saturday evening and find yourself without a plan, head down to 'Reverse Emporium', the new gallery space at Reverse Garbage to check out the show!

"materialistic"
Opening Night: Saturday, September 10
Time: 6.00pm - 9.00pm

Don't you know, things will change, if you go your way?

Can you hold on for one more daaaay?

So today I slept in, for the third day in a row {i know, i know, lazy lazy!} but then hit the cinema for the first time in probably 2 months and saw Bridesmaids. Now I realise that I'm probably a little late getting on this bandwagon but OH MY GOD! I have not laughed in a movie that much in I can't remember how long! Seriously my cousin and were pretty much rolling down the aisles with laughter, I might have the beginnings of a six pack just from the laughing I swear.
To top it all off probably one of my most favourite songs ever featured in a HUGE way, so good!

Anyway, when I got home I was all pumped from the movie and the music and the cupcakes and the coffee and the frozen cokes so I sat my self down in front of the sewing machine which is what I've been meaning to do teh WHOLE of the past three days off and actually made the first of the many vintage fabric cushions I have planned for the up and coming Red Hill Fair {July 30th!}.

First time I've ever put a zipper in anything and I don't have tickets on myself or anything but I am an actual genius! See for yourself!

Ta Daa!

Anyway, like I said, the first of many. All vintage, including the zipper!

I also finished off another button necklace creation, this time in green! What do you think?

I cannot wait for the fair, more on that in my next post!

The biggest garage sale on the north side...

Samford baby! Mum and I hit this one up last year aswell and I tell you what, this year was possibly just as good, if not better in the treasure stakes!! I got myself a HUGE load of old school kids books with the likes of The Magic Pudding, Peter Rabbit, The Bearnstein Bears, The House at Pooh Corner, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and all manner of little golden books...and MINI little golden books (that I didn't even know existed!!) all for the low low price of $11.
Because I have a miniscule foot I managed to squeeze into the raddest heels on earth, for 5 bucks no less! My sister wasn't so lucky with her bargain and they fell apart on her that afternoon when she wore them out, bugger. Lucky mum was around for an emergency pick up and shoe change!
I found the sweetest wee cut glass icecream dishes and some awesome doilies to add to the collection but I must say the find of the day stayed behind. As much as it saddens me I'm just not convinced my boyfriend would have been as pleased as I was with the pink velvet lounge suite with timber frame golden fringing...and so it got left behind.

the most amazing lounge suite in the universe...
possibly the greenest wardrobe i've ever seen (dad as good as laughed me down when I suggested maybe it was cool and we should make a purchase...sad face)
my rad new shoes, pretty much disco balls for my feet.
