Had an accident...

Ok well the bike ride went all fine and dandy but then just over 2 weeks ago I decided to go and snap a major ligament in my knee playing hockey...hello knee reconstruction how are you today?

Yeah I know, sport = injuries, but not always! And now I have to sit around which is fine for a time but then TV starts to get boring and the reality of the reckless cookie eating and lack of ability to exercise kicks in...sad face.

This may mean that I will blog more, it might also mean that I become particularly slack on this side of things because I'm now about 3 weeks behind at uni and freaking out about it!

On the plus side we still managed to hit the Red Hill Fair with our wares and have loads of fun, many a steak sandwich, brownies and coffees and perhaps a wee bit too much sun. But with the lovely day and the stray baby goats and sheep wandering the park when we arrived to set up it was a pretty awesome day, despite the crutches and leg brace!

{photos are coming, of the fair, not the knee!}

Bicycle times

P.S
I'm riding my bike to work for the first time EVER today and I'm nervous as anything and think that I'm probably leaving far too much time to get there {safe!} and shower, coffee etc but I don't care, that's just how I am.

{lovely atumn bike photo from vintagemint.com}
Will post tonight/ tomorrow with how it all pans out, fingers crossed people!!

Opping and Adventuring in Esk

Over the Easter my break my family and I went on a couple of training rides for the Ride to Conquer Cancer that we are taking part in in August. I'm talking 45km rides here, not your average cup of tea for this blogging lady that's for sure! So on with the lycra (?!) and the fuscia coloured bike mits (if i'm going to be forced to wear them they may as well be a cool colour right) and off we set to Esk.

We drove out to Esk, left one car at the caravan park and then took the car with the bike trailer up the Hampton range, to Hampton oddly enough. Only to turn around and ride down the range. Now, you hear down and you think easy but let me promise you, it wasn't all down hill and it definitly wasn't easy!
We may have taken a detour down a closed road (closed for a good reason too as you'll see in the landslide photograph!) but when we finally got back to Esk it was all hot chips, cider, antiquing and cheese platters!
The antique place was amazing and hilarious all at the same time.

My favourite were the copious amounts of stuffed game trophies, they even had fish!! I also stumbled upon a mammoth collection of old (and not so old) 45's. The ones that couldn't be passed up were Boyz 2 Men, Phil Collins and Meatloaf!!

So now we're back to real life and not many more public holidays to look forward to but trust me when I say there will be more biking adventure stories as we get ready for the big 200km in August!

Ride to conquer cancer

Hi everyone out there in the blog universe,

In case you hadn't heard on the grape vine, I will be participating in an event called The Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer in a team called the Sprocket Rockets (mum picked the name!) with my mum, dad and youngest sister. The money we raise will be benefiting the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, worldwide leader in cancer research and discovery. Through this event, I can help prevent other families from having to struggle with this disease.

The Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer is a 2-day bike ride, over 200 km, throughout Queensland scenic countryside from August 20-21. Crazy, uh?! Me, riding 100 km two days in a row, with thousands of other people. As you can image, riding that far is not going to be a simple feat for me. I'll have to train and get in shape. But I'm excited that I can finally do something this big in the fight against cancer.

I hope you all can understand why this is so important to me.. My goal is to raise $2500 and I really hope some of you at there might be able to help me get there or hey, even beat it. It's hard asking my family and friends for money believe me! But this cause and this event are very important to me. I hope that you can donate $50, or as much as you are able. I figure if everyone on my list donates $50, I'll meet my goal. All the proceeds benefit the Queensland Institute of Medical Research and will move us forwards in the race to hopefully conquer cancer.

Today being April 6th is actually what we call Epic Impact Day. It’s one day with one simple goal: to have everyone make an epic impact in the conquest of cancer. Whether it’s $10 or $10,000, the money you raise will be put to immediate use by the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, a worldwide leader in cancer research and discovery.

Epic Impact Day is THE day to show your support for the cause. Encourage your friends and family to do their part in the battle to end cancer and give from the heart on Epic Impact Day, April 6.

If you feel like you might want to donate, whether it be money or time as Crew or as a new rider to join our team please take a look at my Ride blog on the official website. There you can follow links to donate, get mroe info or just look at some of the awesome photos and video from last years ride!

Please pass this link on to anyone you might think would be interested even just to know about the ride, the more who know, the better chance we;ve all got!
