Waiting on the floods to come...

In case you're un awares, Brisbane has been hit with some serious rain this past few weeks and only yesterday Toowoomba was devestated by an 8 meter wave of water that exploded from the storm water drains and tore through the main streets (there are still people missing and sadly lives have been lost).
In the next 2 days the flood waters are supposed to hit us in Brisbane and while the Brisbane river is already at incredible highs it is still to rise, near to 4 metres which will put us in a worse situation than the floods in 1974.

So, with the day off with (I thought) 4 days work to follow I was taking it easy. Then I got the phone call from. Nope, sorry we'll be closed for at least the next 2 days (did I mention that Friday is supposed to be the day when the worst will happen?), call us on Friday and see how it's going. That's when the wine came out and since then i've been doing some 'flood craft'. I know it sounds bad  but there really is nothing that we can do except sit and wait (and not drive anywhere!) to see if we're affected by the immenent rising water and with the high tides tonight tomorrow may be different. But for now, it's flood craft and wine drinking time!

Rug up for the first day of winter!

Let me just say first that these are not the most amazing photos I've ever taken, generally due to the fact that they were take on my phone. My camera just adds more weight to an already burdensome handbag {some might call me a baglady of sorts...ahem} and I tend not to carry it around with me even though it's times like this I regret that fact.
Anyway, as I was walking to work this morning, all the way through town I noticed some lovely souls had decided to make sure the city was all rugged up for the first day of Winter.
Hopefully all these knitted lovely warm things will still be around tomorrow so I can get some better photos of the tree scarves and the crotchet hearts attached to the fences! But in case I don't, or they're not there anymore here are the bridge warmers and the giant balls of wool.
