Easter holidays are rolling around pretty swiftly and I've decided that i'm going to dust off the old sewing machine and see what I can create! I'm thinking cushion covers mostly with these patterns and possibly a tote back with the bowls club towel.
I'm also secretly working on some new leather creations but they're not finished yet so you'll have to wait and see!
also, how cute is this cushion cover I found op-shopping out in the middle of no where?!
I'm well aware of my prolonged hiatus from creating pretty much anything but the truth is, no matter how much I thought I would be ok with uni starting again and work being fairly full on, it just hasn't happened.
Until now!
These last couple of days I have been putting together a suitcase to be part of a market day at my friend Imogens art space that is being held tomorrow. I made a few more pairs of leather cut out earrings and also some new necklaces to be on show. There are only three necklaces so far but they're just prototypes really, just to see what kind of feedback they receive.
Here are a few last minute photos I took on my phone before I packed them up to take out to the shop, please let me know what you think of my button clouds!
{they're all made from recycled leather and vintage buttons}
And if you're keen to stop by and check them out for real, here is the info for tomorrows festivities!
Two mates and I went to check out Harajuku Gyoza in the Valley a couple of weeks ago.
It was one of the most fun restaurants I've ever been to, EVER!
The dumplings were super delicious, especially the prawn and the duck (let it be known also that I'm not the biggest fan of duck but was talked around to the idea and pleasantly surprised!). The beer was also great even if we did have to wait for them to change the keg over, not to mention the sake.
If you order sake, which you should, be prepared for a crazy song and dance with hand clapping, punch dancing moves and singing before you can have your delicious beverage. It was fantastic and my sake cherry was popped.
Overall a great night but I do warn, it was really busy and we did have to wait about 15 minutes for a place to open up at the bar, late on a thursday night. So if you're heading in on a friday or saturday be prepared because you can't pre book tables.
Popping my sake cherry!
Super cute gyoza face on the beer glasses.
They have a super cute website if you want to check out the menu more at
So Kerryn's blaming me for this, I blame her. Purely out of principle and the fact she can judge ALL she wants but that will never stop me from loving Fuel...ever.
So here they are, my top 10 {very painstakingly chosen over the course of two and a half days} guilty pleasure songs. Like Kerryn, I am in no way actually ashamed of my choices, I just feel like the "cool kids" aka the ill fitting clothes wearing too much arse showing hipsters would gasp at and judge me for them. I'm not old kids, I'm just classy!
Jackson Browne - Rosie
It's lovely, so I love it. Perhaps it has some kind of emotional attachment to it, perhaps it doesn't, you'll never know. It makes me wish I could have been a groupie, occasionally.
George Michael - Faith
Yeah I said it.
And you know what, I like the Limp Bizkit versions too.
Take that!
Rick Springfield - Jessies Girl
I know every single word to this song and can air guitar the shit out of it. It's my karaoke song and if I've had a couple, forget about getting me to leave the dance floor if this comes on! The Everclear version is also very good.
Ke$ha - Tik Tok
Like the title of this post says, GUILTY pleasure people!! It sickens me that I enjoy this song but what can I do!?
Hanson - Mmm Bop
I know that Kerryn secretly wanted to add this to hers too so this is a little shout out to her. This song makes me feel like I'm 12 again and let me tell you, I wanted to be the drummer so bad! I know most girls just wanted to be Zacs girlfriend but not me baby, I wanted to take those drumsticks and prove that girls do it better always!
{I am in no way talented enough to actually BE a drummer, I just like the idea...a lot!}
Journey - Don't stop believing
Glee ruins everything, this is a classic.
J. Geils Band - Centrefold
You know you secretly enjoy this, you all do! And i'm not just talking about the video clip!
John Mellencamp - Jack and Diane
I'm completely aware of just how awful this one is and I'm preparing myself for the onslaught from a certain couple of work colleagues. You know what guys, do your worst because I love this song, it's SO uber corny and ridiculous and that's what's great about it.
Ultimate Caos - Casanova
I have no words, except that when I remembered I had this on my itunes it went on the playlist, instantly.
Bangles - Walk like an Egyptian
It was so hard to pick just one bangles song but in the end it had to be this one, if for nothing else but the leotard right at the beginning!
God I wish I had been a teenager in the 80's.
These aren't necessarily the most popular/ cool/ hip/ or whatever else songs.
These are 10 songs that when in my car (providing my radio is working and I'm not relying on my ipod dock because the loudest it can go without crapping itself and turning off is little louder than the microwave beep) I have no qualms about blasting it and rocking out alone accompanied by a little air drums/ guitar/ general exaggerated arm gestures, depending on the amount of surrounding traffic.
Not because I think they might see/ hear me.
I know they can see me, my bigger worry is that perhaps they might bump into me if they get distracted too much by my faux musical brilliance.
Boston - More than a feeling
This is on sing star and let me tell you right now, the car rehearsals are all for the sing star opening night. Beer in hand, pretending that your hair is as luscious and enormous as the band, holding those notes for as long as they can and pretending your not out of breath and dying.
Amazing.
Also, my mum said that this song was the most played on the juke box in the pub she worked in in the UK when she met my dad...pretty cool.
Wilson Phillips - Hold on
I very aware of the imminent judgement coming with this confession but you know what, you guys can suck it.
I love corny stuff like this.
Granted the film clip is truly heinous but I can't help but feel that my girl band would have such a better job.
Crash Test Dummies - Afternoons and Coffeespoons
The album that this is off was one that was on high rotation on long car trips as a kid.
I blame my parents for knowing all the words and every in and out of this song. I can't help but love it. It references scotch whiskey and artists.
Blink 182 - Dammit
Just awesome, in every way. It makes me want to jump around and air guitar and wish I was musically talented more than anything else ever, the end.
Fuel - Shimmer
When I was in highschool my best mate and I formed a band. An air band purely so we could rock out to this song. She was on air guitar and I was lead singer and air drums.
We rocked it like no 17 year old girls had rocked it before.
*disclaimer* - Please forgive Mr Scallions the dirty pedo mo.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
I just like it OK.
The Gaslight Anthem - 59 Sound
This is an awesome song and this clip makes it even cooler because they're playing with Bruce Springsteen, pure gold.
Green Day - Basket case
I saw Green Day in 2005, right in the midst of my emo punky days and awww man! Flippin amazing and I don't think you quite understand just how difficult it is for me to choose only one song. A lot of shit happened back then and I could pretty much give you a soundtrack to Morgans emo life and it would be 80% these guys.
No joke.
Bluejuice - Broken leg
Aside from the fact this film clip is set in 1985, I went to see these guys with some cool as ladies from work and damn did we bust out some punch dancing!
Sense Fail - Rum is for drinking not burning
It's about pirates.
And when I saw them in Glasgow I smashed it out in the circle pit and it was glorious.
Good times.
But I've been working crazy busy at work and have been sick to boot so I apologise but other things have been a happenin'.
These however are two favourites of mine, highly rotated along with sunshine yellow and sometimes bluebird blue.
I think I need to get out more.
Anyway, this was a Christmas present to myself that I have wanted for AGES and AGES but never got around to purchasing, until it went on sale! {thanks Bespoke letterpress!}.
And until I can find a suitable cute vintage-y frame to put it in it will stay in its protective plastic wrapping and blue tacked to my wall...'the' wall.
My name is Morgan, I live in sunny {most of the time} Brisbane and love a good gin & tonic.
Creating things people like to look at, wear and have around them is what I love to do and red licorice, pretty shoes, skinny flat whites, chocolate icecream, playing hockey and a really good baked cheescake are other loves of my life.
This is my place to show whoever is watching cool things I find and pretty things I create. I hope you enjoy xx
The thing I love most is finding something special and using it to make another something special or being inspired to create something totally new.
When I have the time or am asked by a friend I love to draw and paint with archival inks on beautiful paper to create works that will hopefully be loved by those who hang them in their homes.
I also love to create jewelery and homewares from upcycled and pre-loved objects, giving something a new lease on life is pretty exciting in itself. These pieces I sell at my shop on etsy.com, at the Reverse Garbage gift shop in Brisbane and at local markets.
I like to think of it all as organically abstract.
