In case you're un awares, Brisbane has been hit with some serious rain this past few weeks and only yesterday Toowoomba was devestated by an 8 meter wave of water that exploded from the storm water drains and tore through the main streets (there are still people missing and sadly lives have been lost).
In the next 2 days the flood waters are supposed to hit us in Brisbane and while the Brisbane river is already at incredible highs it is still to rise, near to 4 metres which will put us in a worse situation than the floods in 1974.
So, with the day off with (I thought) 4 days work to follow I was taking it easy. Then I got the phone call from. Nope, sorry we'll be closed for at least the next 2 days (did I mention that Friday is supposed to be the day when the worst will happen?), call us on Friday and see how it's going. That's when the wine came out and since then i've been doing some 'flood craft'. I know it sounds bad but there really is nothing that we can do except sit and wait (and not drive anywhere!) to see if we're affected by the immenent rising water and with the high tides tonight tomorrow may be different. But for now, it's flood craft and wine drinking time!
flood bunting..
stay safe xx
Hope you're alright Morgan. I was going to post your parcel today (inc your Etsy order) but then I realised that's probably a stupid idea!? It's hard to understand the situation you're in but I'm hoping things don't get any worse for you.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how you go, I'll keep a hold of the parcel for now, unless you think it will be OK.
Thinking of you xxx
Thanks Steph :)
ReplyDeleteI think it will be ok but maybe hold off a few more days. The river peaked this morning with the morning high tide at around 4am and then again this afternoon at 4pm with the afternoon high tide but with luck we won't have any more rain and the river will be able to subside. Where I am at my parents we are fine, quite high and because it's oddly been quite sunny the past 2 days everything is drying out nicely too (it's been raining fairly constantly for nearl 3 weeks!!). It's just hard because you want to help somehow really badle but everywhere has enough people right now and there's not much to do just at the moment while we wait for the waters to lower a little so we can at least see what the damage is. My work is closed to and we don't know for how long so everyone here is suffering from cabin fever!
But we are well, and dry and our house is fine so we can't complain at all. I'm just waiting on friends who might need clean up help as a fair few were evacuated from their homes.
Hope you're ok thoughv :) thank you for the message :) xx
Hope you were safe and sound during the floods. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks T'lia :) I was but I had friends that weren't so lucky :(
